Chuck's Bio Continued:
The Tri-Valley and especially the City of Dublin have been very supportive of small businesses. Dublin Cyclery is now proudly in a large facility on Dublin Blvd. accross from the Dublin Civic Center. The store is stuffed with current technology and some "classic" cycling products.
Over his years in the retail bicycle buisness, Chuck has been involved (many times providing the leadership) with multiple organizations lobbying for bicycle friendly facilities, and for cycling safety. Chuck and Dublin Cyclery are primary supporters and promoters of two local premier cycling events; in the spring, The Valley Spokesmen's event, The Annual Cinderella Classic (women only - 3,000 riders) and Save Mount Diablo's fall ride event called The Mount Diablo Challenge. This event is a fun and timed cycling event for 1,000 riders of all abilities climbing Mt. Diablo from the Athenian School in Danville. Chuck was the oldest (87 yrs) finisher in this event in 2015.
Chuck's office is full of recognitions from local and state elected officials for his involvement in and leadership of many and varied community service programs. He has served for a number of years as a Dublin Chamber of Commerce officer and he chaired the Board of Directors for two years.
Chuck's wife of 63 happy years has told him, "You're done!!!" He'll be enthusiastically selling the business to the senior manager, Robert Beaman, in June of 2016.
Chuck and Betty will travel and spend time in Virginia - their home 'till 1957 when they came to California. Chuck will continue to ride his bicycle, and climb Mt. Diablo his age each year. He's on schedule and budget for this year (Betty says "He's brain-dead"!!!). He'll continue to ride a number of Centuries (100 mile rides) yearly with riding friends from the store's Ride Group.
If you'd like a healthy dose of incuable optimism, just have a 10 minute conversation with Chuck. You'll come away saturated with his belief that "You're alive. You might as well be glad!!".
